Development Bank of Wales
The Development Bank of Wales (Banc Datblygu Cymru) is the Welsh Government's wholly-owned development bank, launched in October 2017 as the successor to Finance Wales. It provides debt, mezzanine and direct equity finance of up to GBP 10 million to small and medium-sized businesses in Wales, investing off its own government balance sheet across early-stage, development-capital, succession and acquisition deals, and manages named vehicles such as the Wales Flexible Investment Fund, the Wales Business Fund and the GBP 20 million Wales Technology Seed Fund II. The group manages funds in excess of GBP 2 billion and has made over GBP 138 million of direct equity investments since 2017. The legal entity (Companies House number 04055414) is a public limited company incorporated on 18 August 2000 as Finance Wales and rebranded to the Development Bank of Wales in 2017; its fund-management activity is carried out through FCA-authorised subsidiaries DBW Investments and FW Capital Limited (Financial Conduct Authority firm reference number 506719).
