AURELIUS

Munich, Germany·Founded 2005··aurelius-group.com

Pan-European alternative investment group founded in 2005 by Dirk Markus and Gert Purkert, headquartered in Munich and London with ten offices across Europe, North America and Asia and over 400 professionals. AURELIUS specialises in complex corporate carve-outs and mid-market buyouts, driving operational turnarounds through its in-house AURELIUS WaterRise operations team. It began in 2006 as a listed evergreen balance-sheet turnaround investor, AURELIUS Equity Opportunities SE and Co. KGaA (Frankfurt ticker AR4), which delisted at the end of 2023 and was renamed AUR Portfolio III, now co-investing alongside the institutional funds. AURELIUS raised its first closed-ended fund, European Opportunities IV, at EUR 540m in 2021 and closed Opportunities V at EUR 830m in June 2025, and runs an evergreen Growth strategy for lower-mid-cap deals. Its private-debt arm AURELIUS Finance Company and its real-estate business are separate and not part of the private-equity portfolio modelled here.
