Today it operates as a dedicated life-science venture capital firm through Wellington Partners Life Science Venture Capital Management. The firm reports approximately €800 million under management. It has raised five generations of dedicated life-science fund vehicles, with the latest, WPLS V, its largest at €210 million following a final close in the 2017 to 2019 period, and around €590 million raised across the life-science series. The active portfolio comprises more than 30 life-science companies, with the firm reporting more than 27 exits including IPOs and trade sales.
Investment thesis
Wellington Partners is an early- and growth-stage venture investor focused on breakthrough life-science innovation covering therapeutics, biotechnology platforms, medical devices, diagnostics, digital health and industrial biotechnology, including AI-enabled drug development. The latest fund builds a portfolio of 15 to 20 companies and primarily targets Europe with a particular German-speaking-region focus, while selectively considering North America and Asia. Its limited partner base spans the European Investment Fund, the European Investment Bank, insurance companies, family offices, trusts and other financial institutions. The value-creation lever is deep scientific and clinical-development expertise applied hands-on to de-risk early science toward IPO or trade-sale outcomes.
Recent activity
Recent investments include SNIPR Biome in microbiome therapeutics and biotech (2025), alongside an ongoing portfolio including ONWARD Medical in medical devices and neurotech, Nuclidium in radiopharmaceutical diagnostics and CorFlow Therapeutics in medical devices.
