Investment thesis

Matterwave Ventures pursues an early-stage venture capital strategy investing at seed and Series A, with initial cheques of roughly €1 to €4 million and reserves for follow-on rounds. The firm organises around three thematic pillars: Industrial Tech covering the digital transformation of industry, Deep Tech covering frontier and sovereign technologies including quantum, semiconductors, photonics, robotics, sensors, IoT and industrial automation, and Climate Tech covering industrial decarbonisation and energy generation and storage. Geography is pan-European with selective US exposure, with investments across roughly 12 countries. The limited partner base is institutional and public-anchored, notably including the European Investment Fund. Value creation rests on deep industrial-technology operating expertise, a focus on hardware-plus-software companies serving real industrial customers, and hands-on company-building from the seed stage.

Recent investments include Infinite Orbits in space technology (2024), Optimuse in industrial software (2024 follow-on), Ask for the Moon in industrial AI (2024) and Roseman Labs in data and software (2023). The firm made 11 investments in 2024. Recent exits include BigRep in industrial 3D printing and additive manufacturing, which listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2024.
