Invitalia is Italy's national agency for inward investment and enterprise development (Agenzia nazionale per l'attrazione degli investimenti e lo sviluppo d'impresa S.p.A.), wholly owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and headquartered in Rome. Founded in 1999 as Sviluppo Italia and renamed Invitalia in 2008, it manages national incentives and also takes direct strategic and rescue equity stakes in distressed or strategic Italian companies. Its equity activity runs mainly through the Fondo Salvaguardia Imprese (turnaround minority stakes), the Fondo Cresci al Sud (growth equity for the South), and direct balance-sheet interventions such as the 38 percent stake in Acciaierie d'Italia (ex-Ilva). This profile covers only its direct equity participations and excludes pure grant and incentive-management activity.
