About REV Venture Partners
REV Venture Partners is the corporate venture capital arm of RELX Group plc, the London- and Amsterdam-listed information-based analytics and decision-tools group. REV is headquartered in London, United Kingdom at 1-3 Strand, Charing Cross, with active investing presence across Western VC hubs. The firm was founded in 2000 originally under the name Reed Elsevier Ventures and rebranded to REV Venture Partners in 2016. Uniquely among large-cap corporate VC programs, REV is structured as a series of traditional closed-end LP and GP funds with RELX as the sole limited partner, rather than investing off the parent balance sheet, which gives the team independence, vintage discipline and an institutional fund-style cadence rare in CVC. Public disclosure indicates REV has invested over USD 250 million cumulatively since inception through multiple vehicles. Assets under management as of December 2024 are not publicly disclosed in EUR terms by RELX. The team is led by Kevin Brown and Tony Askew as general partners, with sector partners across AI, healthcare, legal tech and enterprise software.
Investment thesis
REV Venture Partners invests to help build companies that can transform their markets through the application of artificial intelligence, data and analytics. The firm targets AI, big data, data analytics, cybersecurity, legal tech, agriculture tech, education technology, healthcare information and enterprise software, sector adjacencies that map to RELX four operating divisions but with mandate flexibility to invest outside the parent direct verticals when the underlying technology is differentiated. Geographic focus is global with active deal flow across San Francisco, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, London, Berlin and Tel Aviv. Initial check sizes are USD 1 to 10 million at early and mid-stage rounds with the flexibility to lead, co-lead or follow in later-stage rounds and to write follow-on cheques into break-out winners. Stage focus is Series A through Series C with selective seed and growth participation. The sole limited partner is RELX Group plc, providing patient capital with multi-decade horizons. Value creation leverages the RELX portfolio of LexisNexis, Elsevier, ICIS, ScienceDirect and Cirium data assets and customer relationships, with portfolio companies receiving distribution introductions, dataset partnerships, regulatory and content-licensing access, and senior executive mentorship.
