About Clean Growth Investment Management
Clean Growth Investment Management LLP is the FCA-authorised manager of the Clean Growth Fund, headquartered in London, United Kingdom. The firm was founded in 2020 when CGIM was selected as fund manager following a UK government competitive tender, and the Clean Growth Fund launched the same year with an initial GBP 40 million government anchor commitment that was subsequently expanded. Assets under management stand at GBP 101 million for Clean Growth Fund I (approximately €121 million at end-2024 reference rates), making it one of the UK largest pure-play early-stage cleantech venture-capital vehicles. The structure is an independent UK-regulated limited liability partnership acting as a public-private partnership between the UK government as anchor limited partner and private institutional and family-office LPs. The firm is a certified B Corporation and a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment. Clean Growth Fund I is the primary vehicle to date. Leadership: Beverley Gower-Jones OBE, founder and Managing Partner, a 30-year cleantech-acceleration veteran who previously held a senior role at Shell Technology Ventures and was awarded an OBE in 2023 for services to Net Zero innovation.
Investment thesis
Clean Growth Investment Management pursues an early-stage UK cleantech venture capital strategy through Seed and Series A investments in UK-headquartered companies developing technology that either materially reduces greenhouse-gas emissions or improves resource efficiency. The fund forecasts 115 million tonnes CO2-equivalent abatement from current portfolio companies by 2030. Sector focus covers power and energy systems including grid services, flexibility and photonics for data centres, transport and mobility including EV charging and sustainable transport, industrial decarbonisation covering cement, materials and low-carbon chemicals, buildings and built environment including low-carbon heating and retrofit, agrifood and land use covering alternative proteins and sustainable agriculture, circular economy, and waste and water. Geographic scope is UK-only as investments are restricted to UK-based companies under the government anchor LP commitment and policy mandate. Ticket size range is GBP 500,000 to GBP 5 million per initial investment, typically at Seed or Series A stages, with follow-on capacity for breakout portfolio companies. The limited partner base is the UK government anchor commitment originally GBP 40 million from BEIS, complemented by private institutional LPs and family-office capital. Value creation rests on deep cleantech commercialisation expertise.
