About Velliv Pension

Velliv Pension is a major Danish customer-owned commercial pension fund with an investment portfolio of approximately €45 billion (~DKK 335 billion) as of December 2024, headquartered in Ballerup. The firm was founded in 1919 (formerly Nordea Liv & Pension) and became fully customer-owned by December 2019, now 100% owned by Velliv Foreningen with approximately 420,000 members.

Investment thesis

Velliv Pension deploys capital through an estimated 30-50 private-markets fund commitments as a commercial life insurance and pension provider, with approximately 10% of the portfolio in alternatives (private equity, private credit, infrastructure, timberland, liquid alternatives and CTAs). The firm has executed a recent strategic pivot toward low-cost index-based investing, capping new private-markets commitments. Sector deployment is diversified across alternatives including private equity, infrastructure, climate and impact and real assets and timberland. Geographic deployment is Denmark core with a global investment portfolio across Nordic and international fund exposure.

Recent activity

Recent realised exits include financial services (2024-2025, divested a subsidiary to a private equity fund). Recent acquisitions include a climate-impact private equity commitment (2024) and a climate-inclusion private equity strategy (2024-2025).
