Rymdkapital AB (rymd meaning space in Swedish) is the Nordics' first dedicated space-technology venture capital firm, founded in early 2022 and headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. The firm operates as a sub-threshold Alternative Investment Fund Manager registered under Swedish AIFM law, managing the regulated investment vehicle Rymdkapital Fond I AB (registered as a European Venture Capital fund extending its passporting reach across the European Economic Area). The firm is led by managing partner Ted Elvhage, a long-time European spacetech investor. The team collectively brings more than 40 years of cumulative space-industry experience overlaid with more than 30 years of early-stage venture investing across Nordic and US markets, complemented by international expertise spanning Europe, the US, India and Southeast Asia. Specific assets under management for Rymdkapital Fond I AB as of December 2024 are not publicly disclosed. The firm is co-sponsor of Expansion Ventures, a €300 million European spacetech joint-venture fund launched in September 2022 in partnership with French alternative asset manager Audacia and global space accelerator Starburst.
Rymdkapital pursues a thematic early-stage venture-capital strategy dedicated exclusively to commercial space-technology startups. Sector focus spans the full space value chain: launch infrastructure and propulsion, satellite manufacturing and components including deployable mechanisms, Earth-observation and satellite data, in-orbit services, downstream applications including satellite broadband connectivity, geospatial analytics SaaS, and dual-use space-defence technology. Geographic scope is intentionally pan-European with a Nordic-anchored sourcing edge: the core Rymdkapital Fond I AB targets Nordic spacetech founders, while the parallel Expansion Ventures joint venture provides broader European deal-flow access through the Audacia Paris-based deal network and Starburst global accelerator pipeline. The Expansion Ventures vehicle is designed to support seed-through-Series-B rounds in the €1 to €15 million range typical for spacetech. The limited partner base for Rymdkapital Fond I AB is a mix of high-net-worth, family-office and corporate space-industry strategic investors. Value creation rests on deep technical due diligence, introductions to traditional aerospace and defence primes, and cross-Atlantic syndication.
Active portfolio investments include DcubeD in space hardware and deployable mechanisms (Series A participation, August 2024), Forsway in satellite broadband connectivity, Orbify in geospatial software and Earth-observation analytics, Osmos X in space technology, Pythom Space in space launch and propulsion via the Rymdkapital shareholders network, and The Exploration Company in space launch and in-orbit services via the Rymdkapital shareholders network. Given the 2022 vintage and the long gestation cycles characteristic of space-technology venture investing, no major public exits have been disclosed for the direct fund as of December 2024. The Expansion Ventures €300 million joint venture launched in September 2022 has progressed through its initial deployment phase, supporting more than ten spacetech startups across Europe.
