About PFA Pension

PFA Pension is Denmark's largest commercial pension fund with DKK 828 billion of balance sheet total as of December 2024 (approximately €111 billion, customer funds DKK 678 billion), headquartered in Copenhagen at Sundkrogsgade 4. The firm was founded in 1917 as a mutual life insurance and pension company and is structured as a Forsikringsaktieselskab (insurance public limited company) customer-owned via PFA Holding. PFA serves 1.3 million customers and 6,000 corporate clients.

Investment thesis

PFA Pension deploys capital across a large LP portfolio in global private equity and venture capital funds plus select direct co-investments, with alternatives representing approximately 39% of the portfolio. Investment strategy emphasises pension liability matching with significant alternatives allocation, deploying long-duration capital. Sector focus spans financials, infrastructure, real estate, healthcare, industrials and technology as a multi-sector institutional LP. Geographic deployment is global with Europe core complemented by North America and Asia-Pacific allocations and Denmark anchoring the institutional commitment base.

Recent activity

As a limited partner not a GP, exits occur via underlying fund distributions rather than direct equity realisations. Recent activity includes continued LP commitments to global PE funds across 2024-2026 plus the expansion of alternatives allocation flagged in the 2024 strategic review. The platform continues active deployment of pension reserves across the global alternatives ecosystem. Detailed buyer names and multiple data available on Pro at €29/month.
