CAPNOVA is a Danish early-stage venture and seed investor based in Aarhus, rooted in Ostjysk Innovation, one of six regional innovation environments (innovationsmiljoer) set up under the Danish state scheme in 1998. It took the CAPNOVA name in 2014 through the merger of Ostjysk Innovation and CAT Innovation, and in 2022 five partners acquired the firm from its long-standing owners in a management buyout. Historically a public-backed, evergreen investor deploying small pre-seed and seed tickets (roughly DKK 25m a year, with per-company limits of about DKK 6.5-10m) into digital technology, games, life-science and food-tech spin-outs and SMEs across Denmark, it now also manages the regional Midtjysk Ivaerksaetter Fond. Notable exits include Action Pharma (sold to Abbott), Aros Applied Biotechnology (sold to Eurofins) and the game studios SYBO (Subway Surfers) and Triband.
