Border to Coast Pensions Partnership is one of the UK's largest Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) investment pools with £55 billion of managed assets as of March 2025 (£60 billion collective Partner Fund assets, £18 billion private markets programme), headquartered in Leeds. The firm was founded in 2018 (regulated July 2018) as one of eight LGPS investment pools created by HM Treasury reform, and operates as an FCA-regulated AIFM jointly owned by 11 Partner Funds (local authority pension schemes).

Investment thesis

Border to Coast deploys capital through approximately 70 plus external fund commitments across private markets (private equity, infrastructure, private credit), complemented by in-house listed equity (UK, global developed, emerging) and fixed income mandates. Investment strategy combines pooled long-term institutional investment with strong responsible-investment and stewardship overlay, and private markets via fund commitments, co-investments and secondaries. Sector deployment spans infrastructure (digital, energy transition, mobility, social), private equity, private credit and real estate, with geographic deployment UK-core with global reach (global buyout, global infra, global credit). The in-house private markets team built since 2018 has delivered estimated 28% cost saves versus prior structures.

Recent realised exits include renewable energy and digital infrastructure secondary realisations (2024) and private equity buyout distributions (2025). Recent acquisitions include £1 billion further deployment across PE, infrastructure and private credit (2024), £540 million in six infrastructure funds (2024), £1.7 billion private markets commitments to Partner Funds (2024), £2.6 billion Global Multi-Factor Equity Fund launch (2024) and doubled climate-focused private markets allocation (2025).
