PE Glossary
Portfolio Company
Portfolio Company · A company in which a PE fund has made an investment. GPs typically hold 10–20 portfolio companies per fund and actively manage them to drive value creation.
Example
A €500M fund holds ten portfolio companies across software, healthcare, and industrials. Each portfolio company appears on the fund's roster from the initial investment date through its eventual exit (sale, IPO, or write-off), typically a four to seven-year holding period.
