About Freska
Freska is a Helsinki-based home services company that operates an online marketplace for residential cleaning across the Nordics, offering recurring home cleaning alongside window washing, moving-day cleaning and office cleaning. It differentiates from the gig-economy model by employing trained, vetted cleaners directly rather than using casual labour, hiring only a small fraction of applicants and building its proposition around subscription bookings, transparent pricing and app-based scheduling with automatic tax-deduction handling. The company is active in Finland, Norway and Sweden, and in Finland alone lists operations across more than 17 cities including Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere and Turku. According to its own disclosures, Freska has completed over one million cleanings and gathered more than 500,000 five-star reviews, with an average customer rating of 4.84 out of 5.
Ownership journey
Freska was founded in Helsinki in 2015 by Sebastian Heinrichs and Esa Vuolas, on the thesis that durable home-cleaning demand comes from recurring subscriptions rather than one-off on-demand jobs, and it expanded early by acquiring the Bergen-based Norwegian operator Wipe in 2016. In May 2017 the company raised roughly EUR 2 million led by Spintop Ventures, investing through its second fund, to consolidate its lead in the Finnish and Norwegian on-demand cleaning markets. In 2018 Acton Capital backed the business through its Heureka Growth Fund II in a Series A that funded further Nordic expansion. Both Spintop Ventures and Acton Capital remain active venture backers of Freska, and no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded.
Under PE ownership
The 2017 and 2018 rounds were earmarked for geographic expansion and for scaling a subscription-led model, and under this backing Freska grew from a Finnish and Norwegian operator into a three-country Nordic platform spanning Finland, Norway and Sweden. The capital supported a shift away from casual, one-off bookings toward recurring cleaning relationships, with the company reporting that the large majority of monthly bookings came from subscription customers and targeting a multi-million-euro revenue run rate as it scaled. It broadened its service range beyond core home cleaning into window washing, moving-day cleaning and office cleaning, while investing in cleaner recruitment, training and retention as the operational backbone of the marketplace. Cumulative activity has since surpassed one million completed cleanings and more than 500,000 five-star reviews, per company disclosures.
