Lundbeckfonden BioCapital is the direct biotech venture investment arm of the Lundbeck Foundation (Lundbeckfonden), a Copenhagen-based Danish commercial foundation. It is an evergreen life-science venture capital investor that backs therapeutics and drug-development companies across all disease areas and stages, from inception to clinical validation, frequently as lead or co-lead in Series A and B rounds, with a strong focus on building the Danish biotech ecosystem. The BioCapital unit was formed in 2022 by merging the foundation's two prior direct-investment teams, Lundbeckfonden Ventures (established autumn 2009, international life science) and Lundbeckfonden Emerge (established 2012, early-stage Danish), and it invests off the foundation's balance sheet rather than from a closed-end fund. Lundbeck Foundation reported the combined portfolio held more than DKK 2 billion across about 20 companies in 2022 and set an ambition to expand the BioCapital investment framework to DKK 4 billion by 2030.
