About Tricobiotos
Tricobiotos is an Italian professional haircare manufacturer based in Vaiano, near Prato in Tuscany, that produces and distributes salon products for hairstylists under its own brands, principally Selective Professional and Natural Flowers, while acting as exclusive Italian distributor for international lines including Moroccanoil, L'ANZA and Color WOW. It positions itself as a Made in Italy specialist spanning the full salon range, from hair colour to treatment, styling and more eco-friendly formulations. The company sells across more than 60 countries and, according to third-party company data, employs roughly 70 people with revenue of about 14 million dollars. Production is concentrated at its Vaiano plant, which it combines with international brand distribution, and it holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 22716 certifications.
Ownership journey
Tricobiotos was founded in 1982 by the Bucaioni family and moved to its current high-technology plant in Vaiano in 1989, developing its professional haircare business over the following decades. In July 2017 Alto Partners, investing through its Alto Capital IV fund, acquired a majority stake from founders Marco and Mara Bucaioni to back the company's next phase of international expansion. Alto Capital IV held the investment for around five years as majority owner. It exited in 2022 via a trade sale, and no continuing sponsor is recorded after that transaction.
Under PE ownership
Under Alto Partners' ownership from 2017, Tricobiotos pursued growth in turnover and a wider international footprint, extending its reach to more than 60 countries by the time of exit. The company continued to pair proprietary brands such as Selective Professional and Natural Flowers with exclusive Italian distribution of prestige international lines, and reinforced its Made in Italy manufacturing base at Vaiano. Its focus on quality and sustainability was reflected in a certification set spanning ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22716 and the ISCC PLUS standard. Tricobiotos was sold in 2022 via a trade sale, ranking among the earlier realisations from the Alto Capital IV fund.
