About MSGM

MSGM is a Milan-based contemporary fashion house that designs and sells ready-to-wear womenswear and menswear alongside accessories, blending Italian tailoring with a colorful, youthful streetwear sensibility drawn from art and music. Womenswear accounts for roughly 80 percent of the business, and the label distributes through a wholesale network of more than 600 points of sale as well as a growing directly operated retail estate, with stockists reaching Tokyo and Seoul. It positions in the accessible-luxury and contemporary segment, and its runway shows have made it one of the more visible young Italian brands, with a following that includes high-profile music and celebrity names. The company registered revenue of about EUR 51 million in 2018, up 21.4 percent from roughly EUR 42 million in 2017.

Ownership journey

MSGM was founded in Milan in 2009 by Massimo Giorgetti, who built the label with the industrial backing of the Manifattura Paoloni group, the manufacturing partner that long held a controlling interest. In February 2018 the Italian private equity firm Style Capital, through its Style Capital I fund, acquired a 32 percent stake in MSGM Srl, with Manifattura Paoloni retaining 49 percent and Giorgetti holding the remaining 19 percent while continuing as creative and artistic director. Style Capital subsequently raised its holding to a majority following the exit of Manifattura Paoloni, and Roberta Benaglia, the firm's founder, took over as chief executive, a role previously held by Giorgetti. Style Capital remains an active shareholder and no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded for the fund.

Under PE ownership

Style Capital's investment was aimed at strengthening MSGM's international distribution and expanding its monobrand retail network, which the company targeted to grow from 32 stores toward 43. Under the partnership the brand pushed into new markets, including reopening stores in South Korea and pursuing distribution in China, though both markets later proved difficult after the default of its Korean distributor in 2023 and its Chinese distributor shortly after. Having moved to majority control, Style Capital initiated a broader repositioning of the house, installing its own leadership and appointing an operating partner, Paolo Chiesa, as general manager to oversee merchandising and commercial execution. The strategy centers on tightening the product offer, rebuilding wholesale and retail channels, and stabilizing the brand's international footprint under direct sponsor management.
