About Fahrner

Fahrner Industries is a French industrial group headquartered in Niedermodern, in the Bas-Rhin region of Alsace, that specialises in the machining of technical plastics and the manufacture of ultra-resistant polycarbonate safety glazing. The group brings together complementary trades across plastic machining, plastic sheet fabrication, boilermaking, forming and assembly, and supplies precision parts and sub-assemblies to sectors including machine tools, railway, material-handling, agricultural machinery, public safety and medical devices. According to its own disclosures the group operates five production sites, employs more than 130 people, runs over fifty machines and produces around 1.5 million parts a year. It is certified to ISO 9001 and to ISO 13485 for medical devices, and counts industrial customers such as AGCO, Doosan, General Electric and SNCF. The company generates close to EUR 30 million in revenue, of which roughly 40 percent is exported, and has reported double-digit annual sales growth.

Ownership journey

Fahrner was founded in 1975 in Niedermodern by the father of Laurent Fahrner, who took over the business in 1997 and built it into a multi-entity group through a succession of acquisitions, including Aira in 2003, Plastrance in 2017, Movena in 2021 and Alfaplex in 2023. In January 2024 GEI, investing through Poincare Gestion via its FPCI GEI 3 fund, took a minority stake in the group to strengthen its equity base. Laurent Fahrner remained the majority shareholder and retained leadership of the group, with GEI positioned as a minority financial partner rather than a controlling owner. GEI is still an active backer and no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded.

Under PE ownership

The 2024 minority investment was designed to reinforce the group's equity so it could pursue significant process-internalisation projects and intensify its build-up strategy. GEI's capital was intended to support in-house industrialisation of production steps previously outsourced and to fund further external growth within the technical-plastics and safety-glazing niche the group consolidates. The group has continued to invest in plastic recycling capacity and in products with rising recycled-material content, consistent with its ISO certifications and its circular-economy and decarbonisation commitments. As a recent transaction, the fuller operating effects of the investment are still developing, but the stated intent is to extend the acquisition-led consolidation that had already taken the group to roughly EUR 30 million in revenue with about 40 percent exported.
