About E80 Group
E80 Group is an Italian intralogistics automation company based in Viano, in the province of Reggio Emilia, that designs and integrates end-to-end automated logistics systems for manufacturers and distribution centers. Its product range spans laser-guided vehicles, palletizing robots, high-speed robotic stretch wrappers, automated storage warehouses and pallet inspection systems, tied together by software that connects factories to clients' ERP platforms. The group serves the fast-moving consumer goods sector, with a core focus on beverage, food and tissue producers, and counts large multinationals such as Nestle and Coca-Cola among its customers. It operates internationally across roughly 14 countries, with global headquarters in Viano and a North American base in the Chicago area, and its network includes subsidiaries in lithium batteries (Flash Battery), precision machining and custom automation. According to press disclosures tied to its ownership transactions, E80 reported revenue of about EUR 314.5 million in 2022 with EBITDA near EUR 39.7 million.
Ownership journey
E80 Group, originally known as Elettric 80, was founded in Viano in 1980 by Enrico Grassi, who has led the business as founder and chief executive and long controlled it through his holding vehicle. In 2020 H14, the Milan-based family office of the Berlusconi heirs, acquired a minority stake of about 25 percent in the group through an investment vehicle, marking the entry of an institutional shareholder alongside the founder. In March 2024 H14 increased its holding by a further 12 percentage points to roughly 37 percent, investing through a second vehicle alongside a group of entrepreneurial families, while Grassi retained the majority at about 63 percent. H14 remains an active shareholder in E80 Group and no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded.
Under PE ownership
The capital brought in from 2020 supported E80's expansion as a minority-backed, founder-led group rather than a change of control, leaving Grassi in command of strategy while adding institutional shareholders. Over the investment period the group has continued to scale internationally, broadening its footprint to around 14 countries and reinforcing a network of specialist subsidiaries spanning lithium battery technology, precision machining, custom automation and digital services. Reported revenue of roughly EUR 314.5 million in 2022, up from prior years, reflects sustained demand for warehouse and palletizing automation among consumer goods manufacturers. The 2024 stake increase, which drew in additional entrepreneurial families as co-investors, further strengthened the shareholder base while keeping the founder in the controlling position.
