Cerved is an Italian data and analytics group, headquartered in San Donato Milanese near Milan, that ranks as the country's leading provider of business information and credit risk intelligence. Its platform combines credit rating and risk scoring, marketing and sales intelligence, fraud and compliance tools, and credit management services for companies, banks, insurers and public administrations, and it houses one of Europe's established credit rating agencies through Cerved Rating Agency. The group reported consolidated revenues of EUR 508.1 million in 2021, up 4.2 percent on the prior year, with adjusted EBITDA of EUR 215.5 million at a margin above 42 percent. According to company disclosures, more than 30,000 businesses and financial institutions rely on its data across the credit lifecycle, served by a workforce in the region of 2,600 people.

Ownership journey

Cerved traces its origins to 1974 as an Italian business information provider, later consolidated into Cerved Group. In 2013 CVC Capital Partners, investing through its Fund VI, agreed to acquire the group for around EUR 1.13 billion, and it exited the following year, in 2014, via a listing of the ordinary shares on Borsa Italiana's Mercato Telematico Azionario at a market capitalisation close to EUR 995 million. Cerved then traded as a public company for several years. From 2021 FSI, investing through its FSI I fund, backed the take-private of Cerved that delisted the group from Borsa Italiana, and FSI remains an active shareholder. Under PE ownership

Under CVC's ownership from 2013, Cerved was prepared for public markets and floated on Borsa Italiana in 2014, giving the group access to listed equity and a broader capital base. Over the intervening years it broadened from core business information into adjacent segments, adding marketing intelligence, credit management and advisory capabilities and taking positions in big data specialist SpazioDati and consultancy MBS Consulting. Operating performance continued to build into the FSI-backed period, with consolidated revenues rising to EUR 508.1 million in 2021 and adjusted EBITDA reaching EUR 215.5 million, up 5.8 percent year on year. The 2021 take-private removed the group from public markets and positioned it for a longer-term development plan across its data, rating and credit management franchises.
