About Nordrheinische Ärzteversorgung
Nordrheinische Ärzteversorgung (NÄV) is one of Germany's larger physician pension funds with approximately €17 billion of total capital investments at market value as of December 2024 (~€1.7 billion in private equity, approximately 10% of the portfolio), headquartered in Düsseldorf. The fund originated in 1956 as the statutory pension scheme for North Rhine physicians and operates as a public-law corporation (Körperschaft des öffentlichen Rechts), an institution of the Ärztekammer Nordrhein.
Investment thesis
Nordrheinische Ärzteversorgung deploys capital through a large diversified LP fund book (dozens of GP commitments), targeting multi-asset institutional allocation with LP commitments into private equity, private debt and infrastructure funds plus a directly-held portfolio under restructuring, with an increasing illiquid-asset weighting. Sector deployment is generalist LP exposure across buyout, growth, infrastructure, private debt, real estate and listed equities. Geographic deployment is Germany core with global fund commitments across Europe and North America. The fund is deliberately rebuilding its direct holdings while pushing private markets toward an approximately 12% PE target.
Recent activity
As an institutional LP rather than a direct deal sponsor, NÄV does not report attributable company exits. The fund commits to third-party funds rather than acquiring companies directly, with ongoing private markets fund commitments across 2024-2025. The platform continues active LP deployment across the global GP relationship base. Detailed buyer names and multiple data available on Pro at €29/month.
