About Quilt
Quilt is a New York-based software company that operates a portfolio of vertical point-of-sale and inventory-management platforms for independent specialty retailers. Rather than a single one-size-fits-all product, it assembles industry-specific brands, including Music Shop 360 for music stores, Jewel360 for jewelers, eTailPet for pet retailers, IT Retail for grocery and specialty shops, and Bottle POS for beverage retailers, each tailored to the complex inventory needs of its niche. The company positions these tools, once reserved for big-box chains, as a way for local merchants to compete against larger retailers. According to its own disclosures, Quilt serves more than 18,000 customers across the United States and processes over 9 billion dollars in annual payment volume through more than 20 specialized software brands.
Ownership journey
Quilt Software was founded in 2021 in New York as a growth-backed acquisition platform for vertical retail software, established by PSG Equity together with the firm's senior advisors Andrew Stern and Jeremy Sokolic. PSG Equity, an active growth investor in software and technology-enabled businesses, capitalized the platform to acquire and build around market-leading point-of-sale and inventory-management companies. Its first acquisition was Rain Retail, a cloud-based POS and inventory system originally founded in Lehi, Utah in 2008, which anchored the buy-and-build strategy. PSG Equity remains the platform's backer, and Quilt is still listed as a current PSG portfolio company; no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded.
Under PE ownership
Since the 2021 formation, Quilt has executed a sustained buy-and-build program, adding roughly two dozen specialized retail software brands to the platform through a series of acquisitions that followed the initial Rain Retail deal. This consolidation extended the group into distinct verticals spanning music, jewelry, pet, grocery, beverage and technology retail, each retaining its own tailored product while gaining shared scale in payments and support. Operating footprint has grown to more than 18,000 customers and over 9 billion dollars in annual payment processing, with headcount reported at several hundred employees. The strategy centers on equipping independent specialty retailers with enterprise-grade tools and integrated payments to help them compete with national chains.
