About MedTech Laser Group

MedTech Laser Group is a Nuremberg-based medical technology platform that develops, manufactures and sells laser systems for surgical and clinical use across ophthalmology, ENT, phlebology, proctology, dermatology and related specialties. The group was formed in 2024 through the combination of A.R.C. Laser, a German maker of ophthalmic and surgical lasers, and G.N.S. neoLaser, an Israeli developer of medical and surgical laser systems, which continue to operate as distinct businesses while sharing research, sales and regulatory functions. Its product range spans YAG lasers for capsulotomy after cataract surgery, diode lasers for retinal coagulation and the FOX line of surgical and dermatological devices. Positioned as a specialist consolidator in medical laser technology, the group serves clinicians internationally from a combined German and Israeli manufacturing and distribution base.

Ownership journey

A.R.C. Laser traces its roots to Nuremberg, where the Thyzel family built a laser business founded in 1996, extending a family involvement in medical lasers that dates to the late 1970s, while G.N.S. neoLaser was established in Israel as a designer and manufacturer of surgical laser systems. In July 2024 AFINUM Management acquired a majority stake in the newly formed MedTech Laser Group through its AFINUM IX Buyout Fund, backing the combination of A.R.C. Laser and neoLaser, with founders Angela Thyzel and Gil Shapira reinvesting alongside the sponsor. The transaction was structured as the tenth platform investment of the fund and its second in the medtech sector. AFINUM remains the controlling shareholder and the group is listed as a current portfolio company, with no exit or secondary transaction recorded.

Under PE ownership

The 2024 investment was framed as the creation of an integrated champion in medical lasers, pairing two founder-led companies to build scale in a fragmented market. Since the deal the group has pursued a joint growth strategy centred on international expansion, a strengthened go-to-market approach and a broadened technology and product portfolio, developed organically and through potential add-on acquisitions. The two operating companies have retained independent operations while collaborating on research and development, sales and marketing, and regulatory affairs. Debt financing for the platform was provided by DZ Bank and Volksbank, supporting the buy-and-build agenda under AFINUM's ownership.
