About IRAB

IRAB, the Institut de Radiofarmacia Aplicada de Barcelona, is a Barcelona-based radiopharmaceutical laboratory that develops, produces and commercializes positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceuticals for clinical diagnosis, clinical trials and biomedical research. It operates from the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park across more than 700 square meters of GMP-certified facilities built around its own cyclotron, supplying radiotracers used in molecular nuclear medicine across oncology, neurology and cardiology. The company serves public and private hospitals, research institutions and pharmaceutical partners, positioning itself as the bioregion's leading independent PET radiopharmaceutical laboratory. It has also partnered with Life Molecular Imaging to produce the neuroimaging tracers NeuraCeq and PI-2620 in Barcelona.

Ownership journey

IRAB was founded in 2016 in Barcelona as an independent laboratory dedicated to the production, marketing and development of PET radiopharmaceuticals. In June 2026 the healthcare-specialist investor ARCHIMED acquired the company through its small-cap MED Rise fund, which had closed at its EUR 400 million hardcap in April 2024. IRAB was the fifth platform investment for MED Rise, following Rivadis, Arkstone, SeqCenter and FIM Medical. ARCHIMED remains the current owner and no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded. Chief executive Joan Trens continues to lead the business, with ARCHIMED partner Robin Filmer-Wilson overseeing the investment.

Under PE ownership

Under ARCHIMED's ownership the company is being developed through the firm's MedValue playbook, which targets internationalization, innovation and product expansion. Stated priorities include expanding production capacity, strengthening manufacturing infrastructure and advancing the development of next-generation radiopharmaceuticals. ARCHIMED has also signalled selective international expansion beyond IRAB's Catalan base, supported by the buy-and-build resources of a dedicated life-science tools and services investor. Because the transaction closed only in June 2026, operating results under the new ownership are not yet available.
