About Holzwerke Pfarrkirchen (Lignopan)
Holzwerke Pfarrkirchen, trading under the Lignopan brand, is a Bavarian wood-processing company and one of Europe's leading suppliers of premium timber construction products. Its range centres on solid structural timber (KVH), complemented by glued laminated timber (glulam and laminated beams) and scaffold planks, produced for the building and construction trades. The business operates from a single site in Pfarrkirchen spanning more than 72,800 square metres, with an annual production capacity of around 175,000 cubic metres and roughly 110 employees. According to company disclosures it generated total output of about EUR 65 million in 2021, supported by high-tech plant and warehouse logistics geared to fast, flexible processing of individual customer orders.
Ownership journey
Holzwerke Pfarrkirchen was founded in 1939 as a sawmill in Pfarrkirchen, in Lower Bavaria, and grew over the following decades into an established timber operation before spending years inside the Finnish-Swedish forestry group Stora Enso. In March 2020 the business was carved out of that listed parent by Lenbach Equity Opportunities II, the fund exclusively advised by DUBAG Group of Munich, which took a 100 percent stake and rebranded the company under the Lignopan name. Positioned as a corporate carve-out and turnaround investment, the asset was re-established as an independent, mid-sized standalone within less than a year of the acquisition. Lenbach Equity Opportunities II held the company for roughly three years before exiting in January 2023 via a trade sale to a strategic buyer.
Under PE ownership
Under Lenbach Equity Opportunities II's ownership the priority was to stand the carved-out business up on its own footing and modernise its production base. The company installed an AI-based MICROTEC GOLDENEYE scanner to sharpen quality control and yield across its timber grading, a notable upgrade to its high-tech plant. It also built an environmentally friendly combined heat and power plant, giving the site independent power generation, and carried out a broad digitalisation of processes spanning order management and production scheduling. Together these investments repositioned the Pfarrkirchen operation as a more autonomous, efficient producer ahead of the 2023 trade sale.
