About Geba Cables

Geba Cables is an Austrian headquartered cable and wiring specialist that manufactures premium flexible cables, wiring harnesses, electrification packages and photovoltaic ribbons for industrial applications. Its historical core is elevator and escalator cabling, spanning standard flat cables, customer specific cables with integrated data elements and systems with embedded optical fibres, alongside custom wiring harnesses tailored to each elevator type. The business has since broadened into fast growing electrification end markets including solar energy, rail, wind, energy storage, data centres and electric vehicles. It operates a sales unit in Vienna and manufacturing sites in Velke Levare, Slovakia and Bangalore, India, employing roughly 600 people across its locations. At the time of its formation the company generated revenue of about EUR 25 million with around 400 employees.

Ownership journey

Geba Cables was created in 2020 through the carve-out of the elevator and cable division of the Austrian group Gebauer and Griller, which chose to de-merge and divest that unit to concentrate on its other activities. In October 2020 Lafayette Mittelstand Capital, a special situations investor in small and mid-sized companies, acquired 100 per cent of the carved-out business, investing through its Lafayette Mittelstand Capital Fund II. The transaction bundled the Vienna sales operation together with the Slovakian and Indian production sites into a newly independent company. Lafayette Mittelstand Capital remains the active owner and Geba Cables is still listed as a current portfolio company, with no exit or secondary transaction recorded.

Under PE ownership

Lafayette positioned the deal as providing financial resources and carve-out expertise to support a business separating from its former parent, with the stated aim of sustaining growth and service to the global elevator industry. Since the 2020 investment, Geba Cables has diversified well beyond its elevator heritage, extending its product portfolio into photovoltaic ribbons and busbars and targeting electrification markets such as solar, rail, wind, energy storage, data centres and electric vehicles. Headcount has expanded from roughly 400 employees at separation to about 600 across its locations. The company has continued to operate its Slovakian and Indian manufacturing footprint while maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and occupational health and safety certifications.
