Galaed is a Toulouse-based lighting group that designs and distributes energy-efficient LED lighting solutions for the B2B market, spanning residential, commercial, industrial, retail and outdoor applications. The group operates a portfolio of established brands, including Miidex Lighting, Europole, Electra, Hoplights, PROLED, Uni-Bright, Aurora Lighting and mawa, supported by several design offices, assembly workshops, a testing laboratory and its own logistics operations. It positions itself around building energy efficiency, including a lighting-as-a-service model that lets industrial clients upgrade to LED equipment financed through the resulting energy savings. According to the group, it generates roughly EUR 140 million in revenue with around 300 employees across France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium and Austria.

Ownership journey

The platform traces back to Miidex Lighting, a French B2B distributor of LED lighting solutions founded in 2008 in Plaisance-du-Touch, near Toulouse, which carried some 2,600 product references and reported about EUR 24 million in revenue in 2019. In November 2020 B & Capital backed a management buy-in of Miidex through its RB Capital France 1 fund, taking a majority position as Sebastien Bonneville assumed the presidency and the founders stepped back from the business. This transaction formed the foundation of the Galaed group, which B & Capital has used as a buy-and-build platform in European lighting. B & Capital remains an active shareholder and Galaed is still listed as a current portfolio company; no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded.

Under PE ownership

Since the 2020 investment, Galaed has pursued an aggressive buy-and-build strategy, adding brands such as Europole, Electra and Hoplights and rounding out its French range and innovation capabilities through the acquisition of SEET. In September 2022 it entered the United Kingdom with the acquisition of Aurora Lighting, by which point it had more than quadrupled revenue in two years to around EUR 110 million. In May 2024 it acquired the PROLED Group, together with the Uni-Bright and mawa brands, extending its footprint into Germany, Belgium and Austria and lifting consolidated turnover to about EUR 140 million. Over roughly four years the platform has grown from a single French distributor with about EUR 24 million in revenue and 150 employees into a multi-country lighting group of around 300 people, broadening both its product range and its client base.
