About Dyneon

Dyneon is a Bavaria-based specialty chemicals company that manufactures high-performance fluoropolymers and specialty additives at the Gendorf Chemical Park in Burgkirchen an der Alz, Germany. Its product range spans polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in suspension, modified and dispersion grades, melt-processable fluorothermoplastics such as PFA and FEP, and fluoroelastomers including FKM and FFKM for sealing in extreme environments. These materials are prized for heat and chemical resistance, electrical insulation and flexibility, and supply demanding end markets including semiconductor manufacturing, medical technology, electric-vehicle batteries, aerospace and energy. The business operates one of the world's most advanced fluoropolymer production facilities, with an annual capacity cited at around 18,000 tonnes and a workforce of approximately 400 people. It competes as a European-anchored producer in a global fluoropolymer market estimated at USD 8 billion to 9 billion, with baseline demand expanding at roughly 4 percent a year.

Ownership journey

Dyneon was established in 1996 at Gendorf in Bavaria, originally as a joint venture between 3M and Hoechst AG, before becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of 3M in 1999 and operating for decades as the group's fluoropolymers arm. In 2026 the business was carved out from 3M Deutschland GmbH by Capmont, which acquired it through a corporate carve-out under a private-equity special-situations strategy; the transaction was announced in the first half of 2026 and completed in July 2026. The deal followed 3M's decision to exit PFAS manufacturing and optimise its post-PFAS portfolio, leaving Dyneon to continue as an independent, focused company. Capmont is the current backer and the investment remains active, with no exit or secondary transaction recorded.

Under PE ownership

The carve-out was framed by Capmont as a plan to develop Dyneon as a standalone specialty chemicals platform and to ramp up production at the Gendorf site on the basis of a structured ramp-up plan, so that global markets can be supplied from Germany. Under the new ownership the company targets revenues of more than EUR 300 million and a total workforce of more than 500 employees, up from roughly 400 at completion. Continuing fluoropolymer production at the former 3M facility preserves European supply of PTFE, fluorothermoplastics and fluoroelastomers for semiconductor, medical, mobility and energy customers. The early phase of the investment has centred on the operational separation from 3M and on positioning Dyneon for capacity expansion and long-term value creation as an independent producer.
