About Cyberhawk
Cyberhawk is a Scotland-based industrial inspection company that pairs drone-based asset inspection services with cloud software, using unmanned aerial vehicles to capture high-resolution imagery of energy, utility and infrastructure assets and converting it into structured, AI-enabled intelligence. Its core product is the iHawk platform, a visual asset management system that digitises live plants, transmission grids, offshore platforms, vessel hulls and construction sites into verifiable digital twins that quantify structural condition and track defects over time. The company positions itself as a pioneer of the commercial UAV inspection market, serving oil and gas, power grid, renewables and construction clients. According to its own disclosures, Cyberhawk has completed more than 500,000 aerial inspections across over 40 countries and supports around 300 customers and roughly 11,000 iHawk users worldwide.
Ownership journey
Cyberhawk was founded in 2008 near Edinburgh in Livingston, Scotland, as an early mover in using drones for commercial infrastructure inspection rather than manned access. In 2019 the business was acquired in a management buyout backed by Magnesium Capital, an energy and infrastructure technology specialist investing through its Magnesium Capital I fund, a transaction that provided a full exit for the company's earlier institutional investors and supplied fresh growth capital for software development and a United States expansion. Magnesium Capital held the business as an active portfolio investment through the following years, supporting international scaling and product build-out. The fund exited its position in 2026 via a trade sale, closing its ownership of the company.
Under PE ownership
The 2019 buyout capital was earmarked for scaling the iHawk software platform and building out the company's presence in the United States and the Middle East. Under Magnesium Capital's ownership Cyberhawk reported revenue growth of 63 percent, from 13.5 million dollars to 22 million dollars, driven by international expansion and a strategic push into the power grid sector alongside its established oil and gas base. The company deepened its shift from a services provider toward a software-led model, widening iHawk into an AI-enabled visual asset management and digital-twin product used on construction mega-projects and energy infrastructure. Over the holding period Cyberhawk extended its operating footprint across more than 40 countries and grew its installed base to roughly 11,000 platform users and around 300 customers, per company disclosures.
