About Barons Eden

Barons Eden is a United Kingdom hospitality group operating a collection of luxury destination spa resorts and hotels built around wellness, overnight stays and spa treatments. Its two flagship sites, Hoar Cross Hall in Staffordshire, a reimagined Jacobean house set in rural parkland, and Eden Hall Day Spa in Nottinghamshire, rank among the largest spa resorts in Europe. The group welcomed more than 180,000 guests to its spas during 2024 and positions itself at the premium end of the UK spa and short-break market. It has since traded under the Hidden Well brand and widened its estate with the Warwickshire property Ardencote Manor.

Ownership journey

Barons Eden was established in 1989 and remained in private ownership for more than three decades as an independent luxury spa and hotel operator. In March 2025 the group secured a strategic investment from Alchemy Partners, which acquired a stake through Alchemy Special Opportunities Fund V, a vehicle that had closed at approximately EUR 1 billion. The transaction was Alchemy's tenth investment through its Special Opportunities strategy into the European hospitality sector over the preceding fourteen years. Alchemy remains the group's institutional backer and no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded.

Under PE ownership

The 2025 investment was designed to fund the group's next growth phase through the acquisition and development of additional properties across the UK. Since the transaction Barons Eden has moved quickly on that mandate, acquiring Ardencote Manor in Warwickshire, its first purchase under the new ownership, taking the estate to three sites. The group has also rebranded to Hidden Well, consolidating its spa and hotel destinations under a single consumer identity. Together these steps mark a shift from a two-site regional operator toward a scaled, buy-and-build spa platform.
