About Balitrand

Balitrand is a Cannes-based independent distributor of building finishing materials, supplying the full range of products used in construction finishing works, from electrical, heating and air-conditioning, plumbing and hardware to tools, joinery, tiling, paints and steel. Operating across the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region, it serves artisans, small and medium enterprises, construction firms, architects, developers and local authorities through a dense network of branches. The group positions itself as a multi-specialist partner to building professionals, keeping tens of thousands of references in stock for rapid delivery. Per company disclosures, Balitrand carries roughly 67,000 to 80,000 products in stock across more than 1,000 professional brands and serves around 17,000 professional customers, with delivery generally within 24 to 48 hours.

Ownership journey

Balitrand was founded in Cannes in 1922 by Marcel and Jean Balitrand as a business selling construction materials and steel products, later expanding into hardware, sanitary ware and central heating over the following decades. In 2008 Weinberg Capital Partners, investing through Weinberg Fund I, took a majority stake in the group alongside management, backing the region's leading independent distributor of building finishing supplies. Weinberg Capital Partners held the investment for close to a decade before exiting in 2017 via a trade sale. The listed sponsor's involvement therefore spans the 2008 entry through the 2017 disposal.

Under PE ownership

During the Weinberg Capital Partners ownership the company pursued a buy-and-build strategy, completing two acquisitions to reinforce its regional footprint, and strengthened its management team. The group invested in digitalization, launching a business-to-business website to modernize how professional customers ordered and reordered supplies. Management also steered the product range toward items supporting sustainable use of raw materials, energy savings and health and environmental benefits for building occupants. By the later part of its development the group reported annual revenue of around 162 million euros, roughly 600 employees, including some 70 field sales representatives and 40 call-center staff, and a network of about 35 sales points across the Provence-Cote d'Azur area, up from around 22 branches at the time of the 2008 investment.
