About Atout Box
Atout Box is a French self-storage operator that rents secured storage units ranging from roughly 1 to 100 square metres to both individuals and businesses, with flexible, no-commitment contracts and 24/7 access via personal digital codes, individual alarms, surveillance and fire detection. Beyond its core storage business, the company has layered on complementary services including coworking spaces, daily van hire and dedicated areas for the delivery of heavy goods. At the time of its most recent institutional backing it operated seven storage centres representing around 40,000 square metres, and it has described itself as the leading self-storage company in the Occitanie region. The network is concentrated in southern France, spanning the Montpellier, Nimes, Ales, Avignon and Mougins areas alongside a presence in Angers.
Ownership journey
Atout Box was founded in 2010 with a first site of approximately 1,600 square metres in Montpellier, growing over the following decade into a regional self-storage network of seven centres and around thirty employees. In December 2024 the company was acquired by Ardian, which folded it into a dedicated self-storage property platform through its Ardian Real Estate European Fund II. Ardian had launched that platform at the end of 2023 with the acquisition of Costockage, and the addition of Atout Box brought the combined portfolio to nineteen centres across several French regions, including Ile-de-France, Occitanie, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, Bretagne, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur and Hauts-de-France. Ardian remains the current backer, and no exit or secondary transaction has been recorded.
Under PE ownership
The 2024 acquisition positioned Atout Box as a regional cornerstone of Ardian's buy-and-build strategy in French self-storage, a developing property sector the sponsor is targeting to meet rising demand from private individuals and professionals for storage space. Ardian has said it plans to continue its acquisition strategy in the sector, using the enlarged platform as a base for further consolidation. Since the investment the business has continued to expand its footprint, and company disclosures now cite a network of nine storage centres and more than 6,000 storage spaces, up from the seven centres recorded at the time of the deal. The operator reports more than sixteen years of activity and over 16,000 customers served, reflecting the operational scale on which the platform is being built.
